Starting 12/1/2012, all applicants for a drivers license in WA will be required to pass a standardized knowledge test. Any student bringing a TSE certificate bearing the "099" sticker have demonstrated successfully satisfying the knowledge test requirement.

Policies Statement

A Policy Statement must be signed by both the student and parent (for enrollees under age 18) and must be kept on file by Reliable Driving School. Policy statements will be provided on the first day of class and/or at Parent Orientation.

On successful completion of this course, the student will be prepared to pass the knowledge and skills tests required by the WA Department of Licensing to obtain his / her intermediate driver's license. It is our primary goal to train the student to drive safely, defensively, courteously, and to be collision and citation-free drivers for LIFE. This 42-hour program includes 30 hours of classroom training, six hours behind the wheel under supervision, and six hours of observation in the car (being driven by another student under instruction).
Reliable Driving School cannot guarantee anyone will pass a DOL knowledge or skills test after completion of the course, but they should be in a position to succeed if they apply what they have learned.

Fees
The basic cost of the course is $375.
Beginning with classes that complete after 12/1/2012, students may elect a package price of $425 that will include a DOL knowledge test and a skills test (one each) that will be administered by On Target Driving School, llc anytime after the student has completed the TSE course requirements. Should the student fail to pass one of the two tests, an additional fee for the applicable test will be due per the schedule below.

The following fees may apply:
$30 cancellation fee
for failure to show for a scheduled drive and $20 for failing to show for a scheduled Observation drive if it causes a drive to be cancelled for lack of an observer.
$40 for each additional hour of BTW instruction, if having taken the full 30 hour course (this fee applies for students that may fail the Final Drive and must re-take it to pass the course);
$20 if, after failing to pass the written test, the student must reschedule the test to sometime other than the planned test makeup session (usually the Saturday immediately after the Final Exam);
$20 to replace a lost TSE Certificate;
$25 replacement fee for lost or damaged texts;
$40 to make-up a class with an instructor (2 hours). If two or more students miss the same class, and can schedule the makeup session at the same time, it will be $20 per student.
$50 re-instatement fee for allowing 60 or more days to lapse after the last class-related activity (drive or class session).

$20 DOL Knowledge test fee
$30 DOL Skills test fee (own vehicle)
$60 RDS vehicle used for DOL skills test conducted by Reliable Driving School (includes the DOL skills test fee)

Additional Services
Refresher drives are available after a student has successfully completed the course for $40 (one full hour) or $20 (1/2 hour). Adult training is available for $60 / hour (BTW; $30 /hr classroom) and each adult program will be custom-designed to fit your needs. Do you need help studying to take the knowledge test? Do you need help mastering the driving skills tested for by DOL? Reliable Driving School can help. Students of Reliable Driving (teen or adult) may choose to use the RDS vehicle they practiced on to take their licensing test. Applicable fees for this service are listed above.

Registration
Students must be 15 years of age to enroll. If the student has not taken the knowledge test to obtain their Driver's Permit, they may request a waiver from this school to give to DOL, but they must be enrolled in a class that will begin within 10 days of the date of the waiver.

In Car Lessons
Students will receive six (6) hours of individual BTW training and six (6) additional hours as a passenger/observer, but they may ride along on as an Observer on as many drives (beyond the required number) as they wish. The student must have their permit with them for each drive, or they may be charged for a failure to keep a scheduled drive appointment ($30). All drives will be scheduled with two students: a driver and an observer. Parents may elect to be their student's observer in the vehicle, if the scheduled observer fails to show for the drive. The Observer will be charged the "missed observer" fee ($20) in this case and no drive will happen. There MUST be 2 students in the car for all drive evolutions.

Parents Commitment

Parental involvement and participation in creating a healthy learning environment is critical to the teen student's success. The classroom and driving car is always open for parents to observe the instruction of their student. With the beginning of each new class session, there will be a Parent Orientation as part of the first class to answer questions and inform parents about Washington's Intermediate Licensing Program and the conduct of the classes at  Driving School.

Refunds / Payment Options
No refunds of course fees will be made after the third class, or first week. Students in classes that lack a minimum number of students, if so designated, will receive a full refund or may apply the enrollment fee to a subsequent class if the original class does not happen.

Payment over time is available. No carrying charges are applied, but restrictions on driving lessons occur if payment milestones are not honored.

Student Responsibility
Ipods and other personal electronics are allowed on a limited basis, and DS cannot be responsible for personal items brought to the school. Cell phones are not allowed on drives or during class time. Messages and calls can be made during a break. Students that abuse this may have their electronic device removed from their possession until the break or end of the class, and those that cannot live without being connected to the outside world, even during class, risk not fully absorbing what is being taught and are more prone to test and drive failures. Students will be held responsible for scheduling their drives (BTW and Obs) and keeping those commitments. They are also accountable for completing all course requirements. Students that fail to schedule or complete testing or drives and allow 60 days to elapse after the last class related activity (drive or class session) will be subject to the re-instatement fee of $50. Disruptive or abusive behavior will not be tolerated and will result in removal from the course without refund.

Missed Classes
Students may miss 2 classes, but the material must be read. Students missing a third class continue to be eligible for all drives, and may elect to take the Final Exam and Final Drive, but will not receive a TSE certificate until all 30 hours of class work have been satisfied.
To makeup classes students may elect to:
1) Take the lesson study material and arrange to view videos and quizzes as appropriate for up to two missed classes; 2) A third missed class they MUST wait for the next scheduled class covering the subject (generally 2-5 weeks later); OR, 3) Arrange to attend a makeup with an instructor for an extra fee.
The same material will be presented at the rescheduled time, including all videos, lecture material, quizzes or exams.

Textbooks
The texts used are the WA Drivers Guide and Drive Right, 10th edition. Both are provided during class sessions. There are no additional purchases required. Students may keep or take home copies of the Washington Drivers Guide (until they are no longer available). They may provide a $10 deposit to take home the Drive Right text for additional study, if removing a copy will not negatively impact other classes. Check with the Instructor.

Class Location
All classroom activity is at 5601 E 18th Street, Suite 204, across the street from Fort Vancouver High School.

Insurance
DS has the necessary insurance for the school, but only for enrolled students. Students receiving any BTW lesson given in a vehicle other than provided by RDS MUST HAVE proof of registration and insurance in the vehicle being used for instruction.

What it Takes to PASS!
All 30 hours of classroom instruction must be completed. Four quizzes will be graded and the student must have a 60% or better (cumulative). The mid-term test must be passed with a 70%. The Final written exam must be completed with a minimum score of 80% before the Final Test Drive (#6) is taken. All incurred fees and enrollment must be paid in full prior to the Final Test Drive. The Drive Test must also receive a score of 80 or greater for passing the course and achieving the TSE Certificate.
